Town meeting will give people a voice

RYE residents will have the chance to give their views on issues affecting the town when Rye Town Council holds the annual Town Meeting on Wednesday March 13.

Town Clerk Richard Farhall said: “This is your annual opportunity to meet with your Town, District and County Councillors and discuss issues affecting the town with them and other townsfolk .”

The meeting begins at 7pm, with registration from 6.30pm.

There will be presentations from the new Rye Studio School, Entertainments Workshop and the Rye Neighbourhood Plan.

There will also be an update on work carried out by the Rye Emergency Action Community Team (REACT), who have been assessing the flood risk to the Rye area.

Rye’s new Studio School will offer post 16 education in Rye for the first time in years and allow youngsters to gain important work experience as well as taking academic qualifications.

Providing more information at the Town Meeting will be Rye College Principal Ann Cockerham and the new Studio School head Jo Townshend.

Cllr Nigel Jennings will be giving an update on the Progress of the Rye Neighbourhood Plan, which aims to give local residents more of an input and say on how the town evolves in the future.

A committee has now been formed, comprising of town councillors and community members and holds its first proper meeting on March 18.

The Town meeting will open with a welcome from Rye Mayor Shaun Rogers, who will then give an overview of the year.

This will be followed by an introduction to local councillors and Rye’s county councillor Keith Glazier.

At around 8.10pm there will be an open session where residents can ask questions, quiz councillors and raise concerns about local issues.

The meeting has been scheduled to finish at 9pm.

Residents attending the meeting are advised to wear warm clothing as the venue can be chilly. Parking is available on the site.
