Vehicles seized in Rye Crackdown operation
Police vehicle seizure
On Wednesday (February 13) Sussex Police’s Road Policing Unit, in conjunction with Rye Neighbourhood Policing Team, conducted a targeted operation in and around the Rye area. This included working with partner agencies Rother District Council, the Vehicle Operating Standards Agency (VOSA) and HM Revenue and Customs.
During the course of the day over 30 offences were identified, including un-roadworthy vehicles, illegal fuel usage, uninsured drivers, speeding, carrying waste without a licence and using a mobile phone whilst driving.
Two vehicles were seized and fines totalling over £2000 issued. Several drivers were also reported to court for multiple offences.
PC Phil Edwards, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “Local people have identified vehicle offences as a priority in and around the Rye area. This operation was conducted to reassure them that we do and will continue to take action.
“The operation was a huge success and shows how well different agencies can work together. We will be conducting more of this type of operation in various locations throughout Rye and the surrounding area in the near future and hope that this will continue to be a deterrent to anti-social and unlawful drivers.”
Anti-social or illegal driving can be reported to Sussex Police on 101 or through the dedicated website www.operationcrackdown.co.uk.
