Visitors flock to open day

Open Day at Battle Abbey School.

Open Day at Battle Abbey School.

ON what may prove to be the last sunny weekend of the year, visitors from as far afield as West Sussex and Kent made their way to Battle Abbey for the school’s first open day of the new academic year.

Perhaps fuelled by the recent excellent exam results, attendance was high, with more than 65 potential pupils and their families visiting during the course of the morning.

Prospective Battle Abbey School families were shown round by the school’s pupil guides, taking in all the facilities in the historic Abbey and its outbuildings.

Guests were shown all the academic departments on route including the Performing Arts Centre and the newly refurbished biology laboratories.

All tours ended up in the library where the visiting parents had the opportunity for a well earned cup of tea and a chat to the headmaster as well as current parents.

Roger Clark, headmaster, said: “We are delighted with the levels of attendance at this September’s open day.

“It is fantastic to be able to open our doors to so many prospective parents and the school was alive with activity throughout the morning.

“This year Battle Abbey School has once again made the top 200 Independent Schools’ list, which is testament to both the strong academic focus brought by the teaching staff and the hard work of the pupils.

“I am quite sure that the exceptional recent A Level pass rate of 99.7 per cent coupled with a 98 per cent GCSE pass rate has attracted ever more parents to the school.

“Our pupils and teachers are, as ever, the finest ambassadors for the school, and many of our guests stopped me to specifically mention how enthusiastic the pupil guides had been about their school and how passionate the teachers were about their subjects.

“The vibrancy and energy the pupils and teachers bring to the event is simply fantastic.”
