Young artists from youth project may be future big names

ARTISTS from St Leonards-based youth project Respond Academy are exhibiting their work in public for the first time at the Isabel Blackman Centre in Winding Street Hastings until November 9.
Jazz Tate, 23, originally from south London, will be showing a series of highly imaginative photographs, while Adam Fisher, 18, is to exhibit a selection of brightly coloured and often abstract landscapes on canvas.
Alongside the work by these two main artists, will be pieces by other selected young artists from Respond.
All the work on show at the month-long exhibition, will be for sale, and commissions are welcome.
Respond Academy project manager Jc McFee said: “This follows on from Coastal Currents festival, when their work was on show at Respond Academy.
“This is the first time that they have exhibited outside of Respond.
“What’s interesting is that the artists are going to be allowed to use the space however they want.”
The exhibition will be officially opened today (October 12) by chairman of East Sussex County Council, councillor Chris Dowling, at the private view which runs from 5pm to 8pm.
The work may have been created by young, unknown (at least outside of Hastings and St Leonards) artists, but the quality of the pieces on display is comparable to work made by artists who have had considerable commercial success.
Admission is free and the Isabel Blackman Centre is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 2pm at Weekends. Call 01424 446428.
