Zumba-ing to help Daniel get the wheelchair he needs

Rye Zumbathon

Rye Zumbathon

THE Friends of Daniel Thomas held their first Zumbathon at Rye Sports Centre last Saturday raising £150 towards the purchase of a specialised electric wheelchair costing around £10,000.

Daniel is a ten year-old boy living in Rye and attending St. Thomas’ Primary School at Winchelsea.

At the age of four he was diagnosed with Duchenne: the most severe form of Muscular Dystrophy. Daniel starts at senior school in September and will therefore need this electric wheelchair on a full-time basis.

Rye Sports Centre and Zumba instructor Iva both generously donated their services free of charge allowing all the money raised to go straight to this good cause.

Future events include a Quiz Night at Rye Rugby Club on the 9th of February and a team entry to the Hastings’ Half Marathon in March. All details are available at the Friends of Daniel Thomas Facebook page www.facebook.com/friendsofdanielthomas.
