RYE Bonfire Society’s Auction of Promises at the Mermaid last week raised a record breaking £4,300 towards hosting this year’s Rye Bonfire.
The bonfire society’s press relations officer Neale East said: “Many thanks to Judith and Georgie for once again donating the use of the beautiful Tudor Room at the Mermaid Inn with their helpful staff on hand throughout.
“Thanks also go to Jimmy Hollands and Timberlina for auctioneering, Rita and Charlie for accounting, Ruth, Joan, Irene and John for all their hard work in sourcing such good auction items from the generous folk of Rye. “
Priscilla Ryan kindly donated an original cartoon drawn by John Ryan in the 90’s while Rye artist Prince Rostislav Romanoff, described as ‘a Russian Colourist’ donated one of his works.
This year’s bonfire celebrations are set to take place in Rye on Saturday November 8 with a torch-lit procession through the town and a bonfire on fireworks on the Salts.
