NORTHIAM Bonfire Society has set the date for its second celebration.

It has moved from the end of November to the beginning of October making it the first bonfire event in the Rye and Battle area.

Celebrations take place in the village on Saturday October 4.

The fire site remains at Frewen College but the procession will take a slightly different route this year.

Meanwhile fund raising for the event continues throughout the year with a Quiz Night lined up for May 24 at Northiam Village Hall.

The main fund raising event this year will be a Midsummer Festival on June 21 to be held on the playing fields.

It will include a craft fayre, beer festival, live music, a tea tent and barbecue.

New members would be welcomed by the Society.

If you are interested contact membership secretary Steve Bazzard on 01797 2525478. You can also download an application form from the website at northiambonfiresociety.co.uk.

More drummers are needed to take part in the procession and you need to be a paid-up member to take part in processions.
