RYE and District Lions filled Beckley Village Centre with their popular annual Nearly Burns Night Brass Concert last Friday.

Around 120 people attended the evening to enjoy a performance by Sussex Brass.

Reg Emson, from Rye Lions, said: “The evening raised a net total of just over £750, meaning that it will probably be increased to £1000 to be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, as in previous years.

“An arrival welcome of hot mince pies and mulled wine was given to the audience before they enjoyed a superbly tuneful and varied performance by Sussex Brass, which was rounded off by the band’s signature tune, the rousing ‘Sussex by the Sea’, to which everybody sang along.

“Next year, on Friday January 23, will see the 10th anniversary performance of this concert, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, so there may even be a birthday cake in evidence.

“Rye Lions have been pleased to have several new members join recently and would still be delighted for more adults to join them.

“Any adult who would like to have fun raising money for those less fortunate and to enjoy a monthly social should contact Terry Cobby on 01797 252382.”
