BATTLE firefighters are encouraging residents to ensure their smoke alarms are kept clean.
The appeal comes after the crew were called out to a property in Redlands Lane in Robertsbridge last Thursday (February 27).
Firefighters raced to the scene just before 11.30pm, only to find the alarm had been raised by a defective smoke detector.
Crew manager Dan Burnett, who is based at Battle Fire Station, said: “It shows the importance of making sure smoke detectors are checked weekly and cleaned every six months.”
Anyone who would like advice about smoke alarms, how to fit them and how to maintain them, should visit the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service website at www.esfrs.org/communitySafety
