A FIRE which broke out in a home in Sedlescombe in the early hours of the morning on Easter Sunday caused ‘considerable damage’ to the property.
Fire crews from Battle, Hastings, The Ridge and Broad Oak fire stations raced to the scene in Park Shaw, shortly before 2am following reports a fire had broken out on the ground floor.
When crews arrived, the fire was in several areas of the ground floor and had spread into the roof.
One firefighter said the blaze had caused ‘a considerable amount of damage’.
Initially it was feared that people were trapped inside the burning building.
But fortunately everyone was accounted for when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters were on the scene for seven hours, eventually returning to the station at 9am.
Crews returned to the scene throughout the day to dampen down the building.
Four fire engines attended the initial call, with crews using six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two main jets and foam to tackle the blaze.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
