Family fun and a right royalknees up at Rye hospital fete

The bunting will be out at Rye Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital next weekend as it celebrates Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday at its annual family fete.

The event, to be held in the hospital grounds at Peasmarsh Road, on Saturday June 11, begins at 12 noon and Sally Compton Vice Chair of Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital, says it will be a fun-packed afternoon. “The donkeys will be ready, and the Pimms will be chilling to welcome you to our traditional family fete,” she said.

“This year, to tie in with the Queen’s birthday, we have introduced a new craft tent where children will be able to decorate their very own royal crown or flags.

“We have even more stalls selling homemade produce, cakes, arts and crafts, and our popular plant stall and tea tent.

“Whilst enjoying a slice of cake and a cup of tea you can watch the Tenterden Swing Lindy Hop demonstration and listen to Sturdy Beggers duet. We will be drawing our grand raffle at 3PM - there’s the chance to win an Apple ipad mini, a Balloon ride or Kino cinema membership plus many other prizes.”

The hospital is a registered charity and Sally says they are delighted that British Marquees are sponsoring this year’s fete and providing a ‘magnificent’ marquee to house the stalls, adding: “Pat, the Rye Community Bus driver will be offering a free shuttle to and from the Hospital via Rye station, and Tilling green.

“We hope that you will be able to join us for another great family day out with something for all ages to enjoy.

“It will also be a chance for us to tell you about our exciting plans to expand the services we can provide to the community, which would not be possible without your continuing support.”
