THERE were beautiful exhibits on display when Beckley Horticultural Society held its recent Spring Show,

Chairman Ron Juden, said: “It was such a dreadful start to the year again, with all that rain, and then everything coming too early, we had even considered abandoning the show altogether. But I’m glad we didn’t because yet again our members came up trumps.

The flowers were a feast for the eye and although there wasn’t a lot in the way of vegetables, the leeks and the rhubarb were mouth-wateringly good.”

There were 35 entrants and scores of individual entries with some new members being awarded places.

Mrs Phil Maynard got ‘Best in Show’ for her Lemon and Thyme Cake which the judge said was ‘one hundred per cent.’

The next event is their Produce and Plant Sale which will take place in Beckley Village Hall on Saturday May 10 at 10.30am.
