'˜Gran' finale lined up for the final Streets of Battle event

This Saturday, energetic grannies will ride down Battle High Street on their shopping trollies to a pumping techno beat, as the world's first and only shopping trolley dance display team, Granny Turismo, hit the town for the final Streets of Battle event.

Granny Turismo are one of the UK’s most talked-about street acts.

“When they arrive on their suped-up shopping trolleys, everyone takes notice”, said Mandy Curtis, whose events company, 18 Hours, produces the free, family-friendly event in partnership with the town’s new Streets of Battle Team.

Also wowing the crowds will be Dizzy O’Dare, a giant-balloon artist who creates feverous balloon sculptures with high energy comedy.

Battle Youth Street Theatre, a group of young local performers mentored by local theatre group Inside Out, will perform their own piece of street theatre.

The day is rounded off by the Hastings Voice Squad, an unconventional choir, with a medley of songs you might recognise.

Mandy Curtis said: “Saturday is the last event for Streets of Battle 2016, but we hope to be back in 2017 with more fantastic street arts.”
