Jobs safe at power plant as Dungeness life is extended

THE long term future of Dungeness B Power Station has been secured following a £70 million a year deal.

The deal has been brokered this week with French based energy giant EDF by Doosan Babcock.

Dungeness is one of seven power stations named in the deal, which will safeguard an estimated 1,000 jobs,

Two years ago the Government omitted the Dungeness site for a potential new power station, favouring other locations.

Cameron Gilmour, Doosan Babcock’s nuclear service director, said: “Doosan Babcock has a long history of supporting EDF Energy in the UK nuclear sector and we are delighted to have been given this opportunity to further build our relationship.

“The lifetime enterprise agreement is the result of close collaboration and a great deal of planning from both our companies, and will give EDF Energy access to a range of specialist skills and technologies that will support its UK power generation strategy long into the future.”

Dungeness B power station remains one of the largest employers in the Rye area.
