Lord Lieutenant presents Pett pensioner lunch club's award

A much-loved lunch club for pensioners in Pett was formally awarded for the organiser's dedication by the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex on Tuesday (July 26).

Pett Older People’s Project (POPP) won a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the highest prize a voluntary group can receive.

Peter Field presented the award along with High Sheriff Michael Foster, Rother District Council chairman Paul Osborne and Rye deputy mayor Michael Boyd.

POPP chairman Ann Nicholls was proud of her team of volunteers who she described as the ‘hidden spirit’ of the country.

“There is a hidden spirit in this country and it is called volunteering,” she said.

“Also, a big thank you to the Lieutenacy for presenting the award on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.

“We are very proud to have won it, well done POPP volunterrs you work hard and have been appreciated.”

Ann went on to say this was not just an award for POPP but a recognition for all the voluntary groups that are not recognised for all their unpaid work.
