The Rye Community Shop used to be joint-owned with charity ARRCC but its management decided to go solo and reopened under its new name earlier this year.

It always used to hand out grants every year and is continuing the tradition in 2016 with applications open from Friday (July 1).

Charities, community groups and organisations need to demonstrate how the funds would benefit the area in their applications.

More than £11,000 had been given to community groups before the shop on Cinque Ports Street closed in September.

Around £5,000 was given out to numerous groups for last year’s scheme at the Pipemaker’s Arms in October.

The shop reopened a few doors down the road in February with its patron MP Amber Rudd cutting the ribbon after achieving charity status.
