LOCAL lifeboat stalwart Priscilla Ryan has received an award in recognition of more than 68 years service for the RNLI.

Priscilla was presented with the RNLI’s Bar to her Gold Badge by Katherine Vasey, RNLI Area Manager for London and the South East, last Thursday at Rye Town Hall in the presence of Rye Mayor Shaun Rogers.

Priscilla started as an RNLI volunteer in London over 68 years ago.

When she moved to Rye, she became an active member of the Rye, Winchelsea and District Branch organising the RNLI’s Annual Flag Day street collection as well as the House to House Collection and many other fundraisers.

For many years Priscilla was the President of the Rye, Winchelsea and District Branch and retained the position when the Rye, Winchelsea and District Branch merged with Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station Branch.

As the years ticked on, Priscilla didn’t shy away from the many challenges and changes that were facing the RNLI, being an active member in helping evolve the fundraising team to what it is today.

Before taking steps to slow down, Priscilla could be found in the souvenir shop at Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat Station on a Saturday or Sunday. Priscilla has now retired from the Volunteering world of the RNLI but still promotes the RNLI to the fullest, raising funds where she can.

Lifeboat Management Group Chairman, Steve Tollett said “Priscilla is a true stalwart of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

“The Fundraising Committee at Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat Station felt it would be appropriate for Priscilla to be nominated for an award for her support and dedication to the RNLI. She was nominated for the RNLI’s Bar to her Gold Badge; which was awarded 10 years ago.

“On behalf of everyone at Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station, I would like to congratulate Priscilla on her prestigious award and thank her for all her support she has given over the many years.”
