RYE councillors are supporting plans to re-open the Riverside Cafe at Strand Quay.
Plans have been submitted to upgrade and improve the cafe, which has been closed for some years.
They involve cladding masonry with white painted boarding, improving the decking and guard-rail and erecting a pergola.
Rye Town Council planning committee chairman Cllr Bernardine Fiddimore said: “The site is quite derelict at the moment and there is proposal to re-open it as a cafe.”
Cllr John Breeds said: “To see it cleaned up and in use again would be a great asset.”
The cafe, which is situated at the St Margarets Terrace end of Strand Quay has a riverside terrace.
When it first opened it was used for a number of events including live jazz music on summer afternoons.
The applicant submitting the plans is Mr S King of Mill Road, Rye.
