Good weather and a party mood ensured that the sixth Fun Cycle and Le Tour de Rye et Romney Marsh challenge was a great success raising £1,500 for local charities.
Organised by the Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club in conjunction with the Rye and District Wheelers 122 people set out to cover the various fun of professional courses.
Depending on their ability and age entrants chose the appropriate routes with which they were comfortable before pedalling off to raise cash for worthy causes.
Richard Popple of Rye Rotary said: “We were surprised that over three quarters of the participants were keen to cycle the 100Km route taking them to Lydd and other easterly destinations.
“Our youngest participant was only two years old who shared her mother’s cycle, with our last participants returning to Rye at 4.20pm.
A bunch of flowers has been sent to a lady who unfortunately injured herself whilst remounting her cycle in the Camber area. C
hris Fairman of Rye Rotary said: “Like all events organisers we take great pride in safety measures to protect participants who take part with our fundraising and will be looking at the circumstances of this episode closely. It is obviously impossible to legislate for every eventuality, but we continue strive to reduce mishaps wherever we can.”
