Speed restrictions are currently in place on services between Ashford and Brighton which calls at Eastbourne and between Seaford and Lewes.

The latest forecast suggests winds on the Southern network increasing to between 60 and 70mph, with occasional gusts on the coasts rising to 80 mph.

There is also only one train an hour to Victoria from Eastbourne instead of two.

A spokesperson said, “Passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling as disruption to services, including the evening peak, is high likely.

“Passengers are being advised to expect delays and disruption as forecasters are predicting winds in excess of 70 to 80mph across the south coast today.

“With the strength of the winds expected, railway infrastructure could be damaged as severe winds can blow debris and trees onto tracks and damage equipment and signals.”
