Man turned home into drugs factory

A RYE man has been jailed for nearly three years for turning his Winchelsea Road home into a cannabis factory.

Police seized 242 cannabis plants following an evening raid on the property last November

Gavin Horsley, 24, was sentenced to 35 months after appearing at Lewes Crown Court on 23 January.

Horsley, of Winchelsea Road, was arrested and later charged with production of cannabis and abstracting electricity.

Following sentencing Detective Constable Mike Pearson said: “This was a great result and we are pleased that the court’s sentencing reflects the nature of the offence. We do not tolerate crime of this nature and will continue to work hard to prevent this kind of significant drug activity operating in Rother.”

The sentencing comes at a time when Rye Neighbourhood Police Panel have earmarked drugs enforcement and youth engagement as a top priority in the town.

Part of the plan is to increase publicity appealing for information about drugs supply.

Anyone with information about drug-dealing or drug production is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email
