FILMING for the BBC’s new high quality Mapp and Lucia production is well underway in Rye.
Location filming is taking place in areas such as Church Square and Lamb House as film crews recreate E F Benson’s fictional town of Tilling, which was based on Rye.
The production, which is due to be shown over the Christmas season, stars Miranda Richardson and has been written by Mark Gattis.
Casting has already taken place which could see local people appearing as extras.
The filming has been welcomed by Rother District Council who say it will help raise the profile of the Rye area and boost tourism.
Mapp and Lucia formed a series of books written by former Rye Mayor Benson which lampooned small town life.
Part of the filming involves laying a new temporary road service in Market Street.
