The Battle Parking Problems website - www.parkingbattle.co.uk - encourages people to anonymously submit photos taken of vehicles parked on double yellow lines, in bus stops and so on.

It is not clear who is behind the new website, which is also linked to a Facebook page and YouTube account.

But the group told the Observer it set up the Facebook page and website to ‘see what kind of response we get and to see if residents share our concerns’.

The group also appears to be adding its voice to calls for Rother District Council to decriminalise parking in the town.

Sussex Police is currently responsible for enforcing parking rules in the district.

But there have not been any dedicated traffic wardens in Rother for several years and the local police have repeatedly said they do not have the time and resources to devote to parking enforcement.

Rother District Council is currently exploring the case for civil parking enforcement which could see the local authority taking responsibility for enforcement.

A ‘mission statement’ on the Battle Parking Problems website says: “This site has been set up to highlight the parking problems in Battle, East Sussex.

“We hope that Rother District Council will consider decriminalising parking in the area so it can be effectively and fairly enforced to the benefit of residents and visitors.”

The tactic of asking people to ‘name and shame’ dodgy parkers on Facebook is nothing new, and similar groups have been serving neighbouring towns for a number of years.
