Mountfield village voice

Two young residents of Mountfield (Martha Hollamby and Timothy Mulligan,) were part of the winning Staplecross MCP School team which won the Annual Sports Day Cup at Frewen College, Northiam on 26th June.

The Staplecross team gained the most points during the day competing against five other schools in their cluster. The weather was fantastic and Frewen College hosted the event really well. Congratulations to all of the children in the Staplecross MCP team for their achievement!.

Jackie Spriggs has kindly written the following;

As reported in last week’s Observer the Village Fete held for the first time on the football pitch was a great success; the sun shone in spite of the strong wind necessitating the nailing down and lashing up of marquees, lightweight objects and infants!. The Parochial Church Council would very much like to thank all who participated in the event, particularly Dave Craven and Julienne Attwood who masterminded the whole event putting in an enormous amount of time, energy and encouragement. The £2,077 profit raised is divided between Church Funds and the Village Hall which is a huge help towards the recent expenditure on renovations to both buildings.

The sun also shone on 30th June for the marriage of Jack Rawles, bachelor of this parish, and his bride Rachel Quinnell of St. Leonards on Sea, and we wish them and their gorgeous little boy Louis every happiness in their future life together.

The Draft Pastoral Scheme, which is the legal instrument authorising the dissolving of the United Benefice of Brightling, Dallington, Mountfield and Netherfield, and the restructuring into Brightling, Mountfield and Netherfield, with Dallington joining with Rushlake Green, Bodle Street and Warbleton, is now appended on the church door. It can also be viewed athttp://cofe.anglican.org/churchcommissioners/pastoralandclosedchurches/pastoral/reps . If anyone has any comment to make on this it should be addressed to: Rex Andrew, Pastoral Division, Church Commissioners, Church House, Great Smith Street, London, SW1P 3A7 OR rex.andrew@churchofengland.org by 30th JULY. You should also state your interest, e.g. parishioner or member of PCC etc.

I am frequently asked why the interregnum has gone on for so long; the appointment of a new incumbent cannot go ahead until the restructuring of the Benefice has been settled to the satisfaction of all parishes concerned. Meanwhile, thanks to several very cheerful and willing retired clergy who have been our strength and stay during this time, we function every Sunday in a regular pattern with Netherfield and Brightling.

This coming Sunday, 2nd July, all three parishes will join us in Mountfield at 10.00am for a service of Holy Communion conducted by Fr. Christopher Channer.

Sunday 15th the service will be conducted by Rev’d Geoff Pickering.

Sunday 22nd we join Netherfield when Fr. Christopher will officiate.

Sunday 29th Netherfield join us at Mountfield with Rev’d John Hawkins. All services commence at 10.00am

Eleven people dined out with Mountfield Lunch Club on 2nd July at Leeford Place. Ruby told me that they had a great meal prepared by Steve the Chef. Donna and Karen the waitresses looked after everyone very well. They were delighted to meet Jane Fovargue’s Fiancee, John Chater and see Jane’s engagement ring. Congratulations to both of them.

Finally, belated birthday greetings to Ruby Willis who celebrated her birthday on 29th June.
