Mountfield Horticultural Society Summer Show takes place in the village hall tomorrow (Saturday 28th) starting at 2.30pm.

There will be exhibits from local gardeners, floral arrangements, crafts and cookery to view. Refreshments will be available. There will also be games, competitions and a raffle. Something for all the family!. All welcome, hopefully plenty of people will go along.

On Saturday 10th August, also in Mountfield village hall, there will be a book launch. Trevor Sully has written a book titled ‘Silas and the Mountfield Treasure.’The book tells the true story of events in Mountfield 150 years ago when 12lb of twisted yellow metal were caught in a plough on a farm. Given to the finder as scrap brass, others recognised it’s true nature and worth - and not with altogether honest intentions. Trevor is a great Grandson of Silas, and his book describes how there were dire consequences of greed and dishonest dealings. Many of the participants’ own words are used. The story paints a portrait of life in Victorian Mountfield and beyond. There will also be an extensive display of historic photographs on display. Copies of the two volumes of Mountfield Meanderings will also be on sale. Light refreshments will be available. Entry by donation towards the upkeep of the village hall.
