Netherfield Church - The service this week, Sunday July 20 will be a Holy Communion at Mountfield, the final service for July will be a Holy Communion at Netherfield. All services start at 10 am.

The PCC met last week and I will report a couple of items from this.

It was noted that this year we are currently running at an overspend of some £3,000 after the first six months. Income has been less this year and we are struggling raising money through our events. I am hopeful that the costs will not be so high for the last six months and that the events arranged will bring forth better results. This is not an unusual situation in small village churches, most of which similarly struggle to stay operational, however, it is the biggest challenge we have had in the last few years. We have to raise some £13,000 plus this year!

The other item discussed is in line with this being the maintenance of the church yard. We rely on volunteers to do all the work. We apply and do get £200 from Battle TC but still cannot justify being able to pay anyone and it has been a difficult year mainly because of the weather. We have had a number of complaints as to the appearance of the church yard, justifiably one may say, however, this is really disheartening for those who do work hard and try to keep things tidy. I would add this is also an issue at our sister churches who are also having difficulties in this area. It is a suggestion we should reduce the workload by leaving some areas to nature and concentrating on access paths etc. Any views from our parish would be grateful and could help in making the correct decision. Paul Smith, Churchwarden.
