If you value the special countryside round here, you will be interested in the Darwell Area Conservation Society (DACS) which will be holding its inaugural meeting this Sunday July 7 at 4pm in Mountfield village hall. As the name implies, DACS is centred on the Darwell Reservoir and therefore includes bits of Netherfield, Brightling, Mountfield and Robertsbridge. DACS has grown out of a bunch of local residents who decided that the energy generated to fight various local threats could be put to wider, positive use. Alongside a presentation of their aims, there will be an exhibition of old photographs of the old farms around (and under) the reservoir. There will also be a sale of books of local interest, including a history of the Darwell Reservoir. And, of course, there will be tea and delicious cakes. Entrance free.
