Netherfield Church - Although it seems a long time ago now, I must give a brief mention of two services at Netherfield in the run up to Christmas that were particularly special. The School Carol Service was brilliant. It followed a similar format to previous years with the start featuring the violins followed by various readings and carols by the children. Adults were invited to join in some of the carols and with a church totally full, it was quite an experience. The performances were excellent and huge credit must go to the teachers who obviously encourage the children and invest significant time in this event. The number of supporting parents, grand-parents and friends was good to see and there really was only standing room as the service started. Well done to everyone involved especially the children. The Crib Service on Christmas Eve, again with the emphasis on our children, was yet another success. Each year one wonders if this service has run its course, however, the turnout was as good as ever and the children did us proud. They really do put on the whole service, the readings, prayers and introduce the carols. It is always a moving experience and such a delight on Christmas Eve to see the children so obviously enjoying it all with parents looking on, justifiably proud. Again, many thanks are due to those involved, to Emma Kersey for putting it together, to the parents for their time and support and most importantly to the children. Thank you for an excellent start to Christmas – well done. Now the remaining services for January are: This Sunday January 12 a Holy Communion at Brightling, Sunday January 19 a Holy Communion at Mountfield and Sunday January 26 a Holy Communion at Netherfield. All start at 10 am and you are most welcome to join us. Paul Smith, Churchwarden.
