Mary: We said our farewells to Mary Shipstone last Friday, with a simple, moving service, conducted by our Rector, Rod White. There was laughter seasoning the sadness as we remembered a determined little girl whose love of music and enjoyment of life touched so many people.
Concert: Northiam Chamber Orchestra brought us Haydn’s Creation last Saturday, and once again, people were asking how it is that our small village can put on such quality entertainment. Congratulations to Peter Fields and the Orchestra and thanks to the wonderful Occasional Consort and soloists Grace Constable, Gary Marriott, Barnaby Beers.
Badminton: Badminton Clubs in the Pretious Sports Hall run on Fridays, with the Junior Club at 5.30pm and 6.30pm (Primary & Secondary ages), with the adult club following on at 8pm. The Monday club runs for an hour from 5.45pm. All very welcome – we have two courts so can accommodate a range of abilities.
Dancing: Dance Club meets in the Village Hall for Sequence Dancing from 7.30-10pm each Friday. It costs £2 including tea and biscuits, and is suitable for all ages. Call in to find out more.
Quiz Night: The Bowls Club have joined forces with the Village Hall Trust for a Quiz Night on Saturday from 7.30pm. Booking is necessary for the catering, so please call Joan Munn (01797 252568) if you haven’t booked, to see if you can be squeezed in. I’m sure they will find you a space!
Bonfire: Staplecross Bonfire is on Saturday, with the Procession starting at 7.15pm. The Bonfire is set to start at 8.30pm, followed by fireworks. Although they won’t be able to match Hastings’ fireworks rising out of the sea, their display is always fantastic.
Footpath Walk: The Footpath Group leave the surgery car park at 1pm on Sunday for Westfield Wanderings – 5 miles. If you would like to join this friendly group and discover more of our lovely countryside, please call Sue & Michael Clark 01797 253428, or meet the gang on Sunday.
Coffee Stop: All welcome at Coffee Stop between 10am and midday each Wednesday for coffee and a chat in the Church Centre.
Flu: It’s that time of year again! The surgery is offering flu vaccinations to the over-65s and anyone with a chronic medical condition, starting in November. Private vaccinations are available for all age groups from local pharmacies including Day Lewis in Battle, and Jempsons in Peasmarsh.
