Northiam

Quiz Night: With the Bonfire season finally drawing to a close, Northiam Bonfire Society began the fundraising for next year with a fantastic Quiz Night on Saturday. Many thanks to everyone who took part, and Rother Valley Brewery and the Spar for their support. Pete Sargent challenged our grey matter in an amiable way, but caught most of us out with his picture postcards of seaside resorts – perhaps we are all too well travelled! Congratulations to the Mill House Marauders for their triumph, and no doubt we will all reconvene for the Conservation Society’s Quiz in January.

Horticultural Society: The AGM and Christmas Social will be held this evening (Friday) in the Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm. If you are interested in volunteering for the committee, please do give Tony Pomfret a call (253287), as new faces with new ideas are always very welcome, nay necessary!

Women’s Institute: The WI’s group Christmas Carol Service will be held on Friday evening at 7pm, in Beckley Church.

Badminton: The Friday Badminton Club is running a bit short on players at the moment, so this could be the time for you to join! It costs just £3 for a 2-hour session, and all abilities are very welcome. Just turn up at the Pretious Sports Hall from 8pm, or call 01797 253375. There is also a Monday club, which runs for an hour from 5.45pm, where you would be just as welcome!

Craft Fair: The Bonfire Society will be holding their next Craft Fair in the Village Hall on Saturday December 6th, this time with a Christmas focus, so you could be in line to solve all your gift dilemmas. Entry is free, and there should be over 30 stalls, offering a variety of handmade goods, as well as mulled wine, mince pies, coffee and cake to fortify you while you make your decisions! Don’t miss it!

Boot Sale: Northiam Village Hall Trust will be holding their indoor Boot Sale on Sunday morning – doors open at 9am. If you would like to book a table, please call Marie Edwards – 01797 253264

Carols: Northiam Nursery and Beckley pre-school will be holding their Carol Service on Monday at 9.45am in St Mary’s, always a bit of a tear-jerker!

Women’s Fellowship: Rupert Matthews will be presenting an autobiography of Father Christmas (does this mean that his cover has been blown after all these years?) at the Fellowship’s December meeting at 2pm on Tuesday 9th.

Village Tree: We will be gathering on the village green for the Christmas Tree switching on ceremony on Tuesday 9th at 6.30pm. Carols will be sung and mulled wine sipped – let the festivities begin!

Hist & Lit: Jill Jempson will speak at the next meeting of the Historical and Literary Society at 7.30pm on Tuesday. Her subject will be The Life of Medieval Ladies.

Footpath Walk: Meet at 10am on Wednesday in the surgery car park to join the Footpath Group’s walk to enjoy Mountfield in Winter. The 4 mile walk will end with a pub lunch.

Frewen College: Frewen College’s Carol Service will be on Wednesday at 11am in St Mary’s.

Coffee Stop: All welcome at Coffee Stop between 10am and midday on Wednesday for coffee and a chat in the Church Centre.

Hearing Bus: East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre will be bringing their bus to the surgery car park on Thursday 10.30am-3.30pm, offering free advice and information for people who are deaf, deafened and hard of hearing. They are very helpful, so do take this opportunity to chat with them.

St Mary’s Services: (7th): 8am Holy Communion, 10.30am Holy Communion
