Northiam

Happy New Year: Wishing you a very happy 2016, after a very enjoyable (if exhausting!) end to the old year. Many thanks to the talented band who decorated St Mary’s for the festive season – it was still looking sumptuous last Sunday. I understand that a lot of people tour local churches to enjoy the decorations, and I know many visitors as well as those of us who attended the Christmas services, got great pleasure from the fantastic display.

Footpath Group: January brings us lots to do in the village, and Northiam Footpath Group will be enjoying their annual lunch and walk on Saturday, for those who have already booked only. But on Wednesday (13th) For Whom the Bell Tolls! Everyone is invited to join in a 6½ mile walk from Iden. Meet in the surgery car park at 9.15am to start the walk at 9.30am, followed by a pub lunch.

Boot Sale: The Village Hall Trust’s Boot Sale is on Sunday 9-11.30am – a great opportunity to recycle those unwanted Christmas presents! Call Marie Edwards (01797 253264) to book a table.

Hist & Lit: On Tuesday, Northiam and District Historical and Literary Society begins the new year with the welcome return of Chris McCoey, whose talk on Birds, Beats and Bacchanalia of Kent and Sussex promises to be a hilarious evening. Meetings are held in Northiam Village Hall at 7.30pm.

Thursday Seniors: Thursday Seniors’ Club meets every Thursday in Northiam Village Hall from 10.30am until 2.30pm. All pensioners are welcome, and free door to door transport can be arranged for anyone in Northiam, Beckley, Peasmarsh and Broad Oak if you are on the Rye Community Bus route. The cost is £7 and includes welcome tea/coffee, a freshly cooked 2 course meal, extend chair exercises and a talk/entertainment. Call Joan 252568, Jane 252973 or Linda 252283 to find out more as a member or a helper.

Quiz: Time for a quiz! The Conservation Society’s Wine & Wisdom evening will be on Saturday 23rd January i9n the Village hall 7 for 7.30pm, and will include the now-famous Northiam Round. Wine, nibbles and a light supper are provided for £7.50 a head, and teams are of 8. Please call Mervyn (253443) to register your team.

St Mary’s Services: Jan 10th: 8am Holy Communion, 10.30am Morning Praise
