Battle Observer Comment

IT’S a shame to see that Mountfield and Whatlington School has been placed into special measures following a disappointing Ofsted report.

Hopefully this is just a temporary blip and the school will find itself back on an even keel before too long.

Just up the A21, Hurst Green Primary School found itself in a similar situation a couple of years ago.

But after a trouble-shooting headteacher was parachuted in to tackle the problems at the school, the special measures were quickly lifted and under new head Graham White, it seems to be going from strength to strength.

Mountfield and Whatlington could do a lot worse than look at how Hurst Green has changed its fortunes around during these last couple of years.

After months and months of planning, Battle’s Big Event finally kicks off this weekend with a two day spectacular from the Battel Bonfire Boyes.

A full list of events taking place in the town can be found on page 4.

There is something for everyone, whether you want to try your hand at a new sport, enjoy some musical entertainment or just take part in the town’s scarecrow festival.

There is really no excuse not to get involved.
