As Chestnut Tree takes on the Great Wall of China this week, now is the perfect time to reflect on what our incredible trekkers have achieved leading up to the challenge.

From their fundraising efforts, our 49 participants have raised enough money between them to cover the costs of all care services for the entire duration of the trip – from 10th to 18th October. This includes the amazing work of the Community Nurses, who care for the children in their own homes, and at the hospice itself.

Our China trekkers have used plenty of imaginative ways to raise funds for Chestnut Tree. From bingo nights to Halloween parties to barn dances, our group really have gone the extra mile in order to raise as much money as possible for their local children’s hospice. Even after injury, one of our trekkers, Sarah, a Director of Lawler Davis in Eastbourne, continued raising sponsorship and training through her recovery, more determined than ever to honour the memory of her friend’s child who spent her last days with us at Chestnut Tree.

For another of our amazing trekkers, Jo Mozley of St Leonards On Sea, the trek will be the latest of a string of overseas fundraisers.

While the group are in China taking on this arduous but amazing trek, we at Chestnut Tree are busy preparing the launch of our next overseas challenge – Chestnut’s Cambodia Challenge to Angkor Wat in November 2017. This trek will start in Siem Reap, travelling through rice paddies and jungles, passing stunning temples and ruins rich with history and culture. After tackling a myriad of hills, valleys and dense forests, the challenge will finish at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat.
