Wartime memories: On Saturday 9th July Yvonne Jordan of Peasmarsh had organised an afternoon devoted to Wartime Memories in the Memorial Hall. Her group of singers (Sing for fun) performed popular songs of the Forties, interspersed with some residents' own personal memories of the Second World War.

Two Peasmarsh residents in their nineties had some very interesting memories. We were pleased to welcome Derek Cope (93) with his Chevalier de la Legion de l’Honneur medal, and to also hear Yvonne read out some memories of Michael Whiteman who was unable to attend. He has recounted his experiences in a book called The Long Walk.

During the interval some excellent refreshments were provided including Anzac biscuits, paste sandwiches and fairy cakes beautifully decorated in red, white and blue. Around the Hall there were also various posters and objects reminding us of those days.
