The warm sunshine, short showers and brown grass continue. My hanging baskets are not as pretty as they were!
Not much is happening this week, but the following weekend you are invited to Richard Adams and Jane Beecham’s Open House, when they will welcome you to view this year’s works. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase directly from the artists.
White Cottage, Rectory Lane, Playden will be open on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September from 11 am until 5 pm. If you wish to telephone them, the number is 01797 22 55 89.
They will be open again on 14th and 15th, but I will remind you of this nearer the time.
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve again offers many interesting activities for the holiday period.
On Sunday 25th, you could go “Pond Dipping at Castle Water.” Meet at Camber Castle at 3 pm, returning about 4 pm.
On Tuesday 27th it is “Shrimping at Rye Harbour.”Meet at Lime Kiln Cottage at 10 am. Booking is necessary for this, on 01797 22 77 84.
On Thursday 29th, go “Pond Dipping at Castle Water” from 10 am until 12 noon. Meet at Brede Lock walking about 2 miles.
The Playden Community Friends is a new neighbourhood group which aims to benefit everyone in the village by matching requests for help with volunteers who are able to assist. The service will offer practical help; perhaps shopping, simple household or gardening tasks, an occasional lift to a doctor or library or other necessary visits, help with letter writing, computer assistance or simply befriending others.

The quiet, contemplative service on Sunday 25th August, 13th after Trinity, will be at 11 am. The service will be Eucharistic, but with an emphasis on thoughtfulness and prayer, with no hymns, but lovely music to listen to.
