Secure storage for equipment used in a fledgling charity event in Catsfield is being part financed by a generous £500 donation from Sussex Police.

The donation comes from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.

It will enable organisers of the community boat race - featuring ‘vessels’ created for a land-based race over a 1066-metre course - to work with the parish council in providing suitable storage facilities for future annual events.

The distance is significant as the boat race was launched last September during 950th anniversary celebrations for the Battle of Hastings.

Featuring 16 boats, it raised £2,000, which was split equally between Catsfield School and St Michael’s Hospice.

The event organisers, the Catsfield Triangle Association, plans to hold a second boat race and family fun day on Sunday June 4 from 11am to 6pm.

Catsfield Triangle Association chairman and treasurer, Scott Lavocah and Carol Hodgson, were presented with the PPAF donation by Police Community Support Officer Emma Phillips, who praised the group’s charitable efforts.
