Folk acts Kyle Carey and Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker will be playing Ragged Trousered Folk @The Jenny Lind, Hastings, on May 8.
The ingredients of Kyle Carey’s music include the songs of the American Folk Anthology, the traditional music of Cape Breton, Ireland and Scotland, and the Appalachian poetry of Louise McNeill.
Kyle’s debut album Monongah, produced by former Lùnasa guitarist Donogh Hennessy, rose to number eight in the summer of 2011 on the International Folk DJ charts, landing on a number of ‘Best of’ lists by year’s end.
Her original songs draw heavily from the American folk tradition, while her fluency in Scottish Gaelic makes for her own brand of ‘Gaelic Americana’ music.
Kyle’s follow up album Glory of the Night, due for UK release later in 2013, will be produced by Sòlas founding member Seamus Egan.
Josienne Clarke, FATEA Female Vocalist of The Year 2012, was raised in Sussex.
Guitarist Ben Walker is influenced by the fingerstyle greats such as Bert Jansch, Pierre Bensusan and Richard Thompson.
In 2012 they won the Isambard Award at Bristol Folk Festival, and toured the UK for the first time.
Josienne and Ben’s new album, Fire and Fortune, will be released in July this year.
Tickets are £6 and doors open at 7.30pm.
