STOOLBALL On Tuesday July 23 the ladies played at Pett in a very close match in which we lost by just 10 runs. The hosts batted first and an opening partnership of 161 by Janet (92) and Anya (66 not out) was broken in the last over when Lisa Fifield hald onto a catch from Sophie Turner’ bowling who finished with figures of 2-0-1-27. We lost three wickets in the first over and when the fourth went down at 28 we were struggling but a partnership of 34 between Penny Clark(43) and Abigail Fifield(12) steadioed the innings and a quick fire 64 not out by JJ Boast almost took us to victory but we finished on 165-9. On Thursday July 25 the mixed team played at home to a strong Civil Service side who batted first. There first wicket went down at 24 from Lisa Fifield (2-0-1-29) bowling aided by a catch from Ben Moss and when Keith Apps took a catch from Di Kitson (1-8) bowling the visitors were on 43-2 but a third wicket partnership of 109 between Neil (75 not out) and Paula (57) saw the visitors race to 152 before Paula was caught by Keith from Kaleigh Sherwood (1-17) bowling. Keith claimed his third catch when he caught the visitors skipper Donna (2) from the bowling of the host’s skipper Richard Apps (1-13) as the visitors finally posted a massive 206 from the 12 overs. This total was always going to be difficult for our young side and with both the openers going in the first two overs we were struggling but solid defence from Kayleigh (20), Ian Kitson (27), Josh Lewis(26) and Ben(22) got us to 142-8 from our 12 overs with all our wickets falling to catches. On Sunday August 4 the mixed are at Crowhurst Tournament (11am) while on Thursday August 8 the mixed are away to Icklesham (6.45pm).
