FOOTBALL: The 1st team played away to Division 2 side Bexhill A.A.C. in the semi-final of the Paul Mitchell Plastering Contractors sponsored Robertsbridge Charity Intermediate Cup. The Bridge were behind after just 5 minutes allowing the hosts a free header and the hosts doubled their lead when a long ball was finished on 35 minutes but on the stroke of half time man of the match Phil Green scored from Tom Ripley’ cross. The second half was just 10 minutes old when Ripley finished neatly but five minutes later the hosts restored their lead with a great finish. A Green corner found defender Ben Hardy at the far post to level on 70 minutes and then Green ran through to give The Bridge the lead on 80 minutes but poor defending saw the hosts level on 85 minutes to take the tie into extra time. Both sides failed to score in the extra time period so it was decided on penalties which the hosts won 4-2 to progress into the final in May. The 2nd team played at home to Division 5 bottom club St.Leonards and went a goal down after just 2 minutes when stand in keeper Kenny Jones misjudged a cross but a great run from Tommy Moyce 3 minutes later levelled the tie at the break. Sam Edmunds scored on 55 minutes and then a long throw from man of the match Charlie Hornshaw found Moyce on hand to slot home after 65 minutes. Hornshaw was replaced by Scott Hayward and he ran through to net after 70 minutes but the hosts scored a minute from the end as The Bridge ran out 4-2 winners. Tomorrow the 1st team are at home to Rock-a-Nore in the Premier Division K.O. 3p.m. while the 2nd team are without a game. A reminder that the 1st team are playing on Monday 25th April 2016 in the Birchwood Group Challenge Cup Final against Peche Hill Select at The Pilot Field, Hastings United F.C., K.O. 7.30p.m. Entry fee is £3.
