Roy takes gold in Love Sussex photography competition

Talented local photographer Roy Paul is celebrating after one of his photographs was selected to appear in next year's Love Sussex calender that's set to raise hundreds of pounds for a charity that helps bereaved families.

The Love Sussex competition is organised by print and design specialists Evonprint. Managing director Steve Rowland, says they received over 70 entries making the judging process tough. “We had a great response with some outstanding entries, “ he said. “Choosing just thirteen was difficult but we are very pleased with our final decisions.”

Budding Sussex photographers were asked to enter images that best depicted the theme of ‘having fun in Sussex’. The thirteen photos chosen are now being made into 2017 calendars for You Raise Me Up charity to sell. The charity offers financial and emotional support to families that have lost a young adult between the ages of 16-25.

Roy Paul’s picture entitled ‘Golden’ was taken at Camber Sands and he says he was delighted to have won. “It was a real surprise and an honour to have my photograph selected to appear in the Love Sussex charity calendar,” he said. “I really hope that the calendar is a success and helps raise money and awareness for the good work of the You Raise Me Up charity.”

Competition winners also received a hamper of goodies, a years membership to English Heritage, tripod, camera mug, and mini prosecco.

Jane Brooks, Trustee of You Raise Me Up said: “Thank you to those who entered such lovely images to create a fantastic and very sellable calendar.”

The calendar costs £5.00, and is available from November at You Raise Me Up’s coffee shop, 3 Millfields, Polegate, Eastbourne and Facebook page @You Raise Me Up.
