RYE Post Office is on the move - but only by a few feet .
The Post Office is moving from Station Approach to anew location within Jempsons Budgens supermarket just 75 feet around the corner.
And there are plans to significantly increase the opening hours meaning Post Office service will be available from 6am - 10pm - an increase of 42 hours a week.
The Post Office is inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six week public consultation.
Post Office Regional Network Manager for South East England, Mark Lawrence, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in this area of Rye and we are confident that the new branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6000 branches (about half the Post Office network) converting to new-style branches. The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The new Rye Post Office would have a mixture of two open-plan counters and one screened positions.
Opening hours at the proposed new location would be Monday to Saturday: 06:00 – 22:00. This offers customers an extra 42 hours a week to access Post Office products and services, including Saturday afternoon.
The current opening hours are 8.30am - 5.30pm Monday - Saturday.
During the public consultation Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal.
The consultation will close on 10 July 2013. Submissions can be made during the consultation by Freepost Your Comments to Post Office Ltd, via email to email@example.com, via the Customer Helpline: 08457 22 33 44 or Textphone 08457 22 33 55.
The Post Office is now independent of Royal Mail.
