This Saturday, October 5, Sedlescombe and District Gardening Society have their Autumn Show, featuring a Chilli and Tomato Fest, at the village hall. Exhibits should be staged any time between 8.00 a.m. and 10.15 a.m. but of course if you don’t have any entries this time then please visit the show from 2.00 p.m. when the hall will be open to the public.
Work on Sedlescombe’s Neighbourhood Plan is progressing well following the successful Exhibition held in the Village Hall on September 14 and 15. For those not able to attend the Exhibition, there is the opportunity to see the information that was displayed online on the www.sedlescombe.org.uk website and to ask for the relevant form to complete. Special arrangements can be made for those without internet access. Just telephone Pauline Raymond, the Parish Clerk, on 01424 870508, and leave your name and number for her to let you know how this can be arranged. Closing date for forms is Friday 18 October.
On Saturday 28 September the newly-refurbished multi-use games area at Sedlescombe was officially opened by the Chairman of Sedlescombe Parish Council, Jonathan Vine-Hall. People of all ages had a go at playing tennis led by LTA Coach Nick Montague including members and coaches from the Sedlescombe Rangers Football Club. Hopefully, this will be the start of a useful partnership between football, tennis and the Parish Council/Playing Field Trust. Further details are available from Pauline Raymond on 01424 870508.
Sedlescombe and District Flower club host their AGM on Wednesday October 9 at the village hall. All members are invited to attend and show their support for the committee and the club. There will be a fun event “Two’s Company” following the business part of the evening and the opportunity to socialise. Doors will be open from 7pm, ready for a 7.30pm start. Further details prior to the date please contact Sheila on 01797 223927 or Janet on 01424 773708
Please mark in your diary now, the Flower club meeting date for next month, November 20. This will be a special open evening with visiting NAFAS demonstrator Carolyn Meer interpreting “Christmas”. Tickets will be on sale soon priced £7 which will include the demonstration, mulled wine and tasty buffet snacks. At the end of the evening the floral arrangements will be raffled but if you not lucky in this draw then there will be a top quality general raffle as well.
The annual jumble sale organised by the Friends of Sedlescombe church is only a few weeks away, the date this year is Saturday October 26. This early reminder is to give you plenty of time to clear your unwanted clutter and consider donating it to this local cause. All funds from the event will directly benefit the refurbishment of the church taking place at the moment. Please do not deposit anything prior to the date at the village hall as there are no storage facilities available but it would be very welcome on the morning of the sale. If you are not able to bring to the hall on the day and require collection of your donated goods then please contact Anthony on 01424 870722.
Sedlescombe Societies Association Annual General Meeting will be on Monday November 18 in Committee room 2 at the village hall. It is hoped that new committee members from the village will come forward so that there will be a summer fayre event in 2014. Another part of the evening will concentrate on granting small amounts to local groups who are in need of funds for community projects. If you would like to apply for a small grant for your group or village project please write with the details and the amount requested as soon as possible to the secretary, Judy Torrance, Asselton House, the Green Sedlescombe TN33 0QA.
If you have an event coming up in the local area or would like to have a small piece, outlining your club or organisation aims, activities, membership etc. then please contact me by email to email@example.com or by calling 870344. Please allow a couple of weeks notice before an event to allow for full cover
