A GOOD CHRISTMAS?: I hope you all had a good Christmas. That will mean different things to different people but falling on the end of the week surely meant that there was more time for families to be able to come together and see each other this year and hope you had this opportunity too.

MINI MARKET AND COFFEE MORNING: Please remember that the first coffee morning in this year will be on Thursday February 4 at the usual time of 10am to 11.30am in the village hall and not in this coming week. All are welcome at this friendly event so do try to make space in your diary to go along.

HAVE YOU NEWS?: I look forward to receiving your news to be published in this column. At this time of year lots of us are thinking about starting or joining something new so if you are looking for new members for your club or organisation why not send me a small piece, outlining your club or organisation aims, activities, membership etc. or if you have an event coming up in the village or local area then why not let me have the details to advertise for you? This is a free service to the village by the Battle Observer and hope you will take full advantage of it. Please contact me by email at judy@asselton.co.uk or by calling 870344. Please allow a couple of weeks notice before an event to allow for full coverage.

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH CHURCH: I hope some of you were able to go to some or all of the services at the parish church over Christmas. The carol service on the 20 December was particularly beautiful with the church lit by candles. Everyone was in fine voice as the carols rang out for all to hear. A dedicated group of volunteers then served mulled wine and mince following the service giving time to exchange Christmas greetings.

I am sure there was plenty of activity and fun at the afternoon Christmas eve crib service when the children dressed up to tell the story of Christmas before the more serious service took place later in the evening at midnight mass. On December 25, the congregation would have been able to celebrate and enjoy their Christmas communion in comfort due to the new heating system that was installed during 2015.

HAPPY NEW YEAR: Happy New Year to you all and hope that that it brings what you are hoping for you personally with your family and for the world around you.
