Have your say

The excitement for this weekend must surely be focused on the Olympic opening ceremony and start of the games, after witnessing the marvellous achievement of Bradley Wiggins now it’s the turn of Team GB to keep us glued to our seats.

Win or lose though our competitors have shown tremendous commitment to their sport to be representing Britain and will hopefully have the added benefit of maybe inspiring other people, young and old, to try some new sport in the future.

Despite having to cancel the village fayre last weekend the flower show which reverted to the village hall had a super turn out of entries and plenty of visitors enjoying the afternoon. Thanks to the Sedlescombe and District Gardening Society there was even a little space outside for a few fundraising stalls. Sedlescombe Societies’ Association would like to thank all those who volunteered to help and take part at the hall running cake, dvd, book, tombola and raffle stalls. Sedlescombe stores and the Clockhouse hair and beauty studio were very generous with their donations of prizes despite the change of venue and size, their support was greatly appreciated.

Next year the date for the village fayre and flower show will return to the last Saturday in July so will therefore be Saturday 27 July 2013. If you think you would like to be part of the committee that organising this event then please come along to the AGM at the village hall on Friday November 2. More details on this nearer the date .If you think you may be able to control the weather then you would be especially welcome. Advance notice that Rural Pastimes will once again be taking place at Pestalozzi village over the weekend of August 11 and 12, full details on this will follow next week but please mark your diaries now and start keeping your fingers crossed that this good weather holds until then.

East Sussex Disability Association is an organisation where non-disabled and disabled people work together to promote the equality and full participation of disabled people in society. Thereby residents from both communities and the surrounds are welcome to join. So if you are interested in getting out the ESDA, Sedlescombe & Westfield Club goes out on the second Thursday of every month. The activities range from lunches out at country pubs, visits to places of interest and just getting out for a ride around. We provide a door to door service for our members.

Their next two forthcoming outings include on Thursday August 9 a trip to The Moorings in Pevensey Bay, a favourite venue being right on the beach. Airbourne will be on so members may see planes flying by whilst enjoying lunch. For the next month, Thursday 13 September a trip to The Bear Inn in Burwash.

To try and keep costs down you will be asked for a contribution towards the transport and outings. Members also participate in fundraising to help keep the costs down.
