Senlac Rotary Club - August 22
NIGEL Faulkner, President, Rotary Club of Senlac hosted a meeting at the Cooden Beach Hotel last Wednesday evening.
Representatives from Bexhill Rowing Club, Phil McCorry, Nick McCorry and Matt Hellier gave a presentation of the Indian Ocean Rowing Race planned for April 2009.
The president of the Rotary Club of Senlac presented the rowing team with a cheque for 200 raised during the evening.
The 3,000 nautical mile crossing is the first organised race across the Southern Hemisphere.
A whole host of records will be available for competitors including; first four and youngest males to row across the Indian Ocean, also the youngest team of four to row across any ocean, not the mention the overall land to land record and current speed records.
The rowing team intend holding many publicity events in the lead up to the race and are looking for ways in which they can promote sponsors pre, during and post expedition.
They will also be raising awareness of their chosen charity, The Stroke Association.
