Rye has been left high and dry with both supermarket giants walking away this week.

It means the town is set to remain one of the only places in the South East where people cannot do a supermarket shop on a Sunday.

A four-year stalemate finally came to an end with Sainsburys and Tesco offering to sell each other their land but both saying it was no longer viable for them to open a store in the town.

A Rother survey put a new supermarket high on a list of local priorities claiming that 80 percent of residents regularly did their big weekly shop outside of Rye.
