Sporting events brought to a standstill

Outdoor sport in the locality was brought to a standstill at the weekend by the freezing temperatures.

All of the area’s six senior football clubs had their games postponed, including Hastings United’s bottom two clash with Carshalton Athletic and Rye United’s FA Vase tie against Guernsey, while just one match beat the weather in the ADA East Sussex Football League.

Rugby and hockey didn’t escape either. Hastings & Bexhill and Rye Rugby Clubs, along with South Saxons Hockey Club, were left kicking their heels because of frozen and snow-covered pitches.
