Someone from Sussex may only just have calmed down after placing £50,000 on Australia to beat Scotland in the Rugby World Cup last night (Sunday, October 18).

The anonymous punter from Hastings accepted odds of 1/8 from William Hill, meaning he collected £56,250 after the Aussies narrowly won in the last few minutes of the game.

The bet also seems to be the biggest single of the tournament.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said before the match: “More and more people are backing Australia not just to beat Scotland but to win the tournament.

“This bet is a gutsy call and we believe that it is the biggest single bet of the tournament so far.”
