The driver of the car, a 69-year-old man from Hastings, was left shaken but otherwise uninjured, the spokesperson said.

As a result of the collision, which took place at the junction with Bulverhythe Road in St Leonard’s, the A259 was closed for several hours while the emergency services provided life saving medical treatment and initiated the investigation, police said.

The road was reopened at 16:39, police confirmed.

The police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance at the scene and for their patience while the road was closed.

Sargeant Stacey Ellott, investigating officer, is appealing for witnesses who may have witnessed the collision or may have seen the vehicle or the pedestrian in the lead up to the collision to call 101 quoting operation neutral or email [email protected]
