UPDATE: Woman dies after hit by generator in Etchingham

A woman died after a generator fell off a truck and hit her in Etchingham this morning (Monday, August 8) with the driver arrested.

Emergency services were called to a report of a generator having fallen off a vehicle and hitting two pedestrians in High Street near the level crossing just before 6.55am.

The 40-year-old woman, believed to be from Etchingham, died at the scene ‘despite emergency services’ best efforts’, according to a South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) spokesman.

A 42-year-old man from Ashford, Kent, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in custody.

A 44-year-old man, also believed to be from Etchingham, suffered serious injuries and was flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, and is in a stable condition.

The road was closed eastbound at Oxenbridge Lane but has re-opened at 1.45pm.

Paramedics in three ambulances and four response cars were sent to the scene along with police.
